Dreamforce, how will IR4 evolve our industry?

According to Wikipedia, Industry 4 (#IR4) is “the trend towards automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies and processes which include cyber-physical systems (CPS), the internet of things (IoT), industrial internet of things (IIOT), cloud computing, cognitive computing and artificial intelligence.”

For us at Metacube, this is a revolution that started several years ago when industry was first talking about IoT. We recognised that what we were seeing was the next generation of connectivity and data sharing, but to achieve its real potential, organisations needed the right platforms through which to communicate.

With an expanding team of experts, we already had both the industry knowledge and technical skills to understand what changes would become common place and how this will affect organisations developing new apps. But importantly we are always looking at the future technologies to see how these will impact our projects and our clients’ apps. But building this resource is a job in itself and presents challenges that affect most businesses.

Whether it is a start-up or an enterprise organisation, establishing a team to develop an app within the timescale and budget needed to be profitable can prevent development work taking place and lead to the business missing out on a significant potential return on investment. But it doesn’t have to be the case.

As mentioned above, we have made it our mission to build a team that is class leading and has both technical and industry knowledge to help advise our clients on what solutions are needed and then help them deliver the solution. By providing this resource as a managed service, we are able to help ensure our clients can scale up or down as they need to, reducing operational costs and increasing the speed of delivery.

To recruit this number of people, let alone ensure they have the same expertise would take a considerable time and investment so most of our clients look to us to plug the gap. Ultimately our clients come to see us as an extension to their team as opposed to an external resource, ensuring we can deliver real value to both the project and their team.
